McMurdo Station Information Technology Operations Facility Expansion
Project type
Expansion and Modernization - Design Bid Build
Date
2022
Location
McMurdo Station, Antarctica
Fire Protection Engineer; McMurdo Station Information Technologies & Communications Primary Operations Facility, McMurdo Station, Antarctica. $21M construction est.
Christine performed a hazard analysis and designed a fire alarm and mass notification system replacement as well as upgrades to fire suppression systems for a renovated and
expanded secure data center, office and station operations support facility in Antarctica for the National Science Foundation. She provided a fire suppression system design including hydraulic calculations for a new dry-pipe zone and extension of an existing two-zone double-interlock preaction sprinkler system. The sprinkler systems were pressurized by a nitrogen generator instead of air to support system longevity. Christine designed a clean agent suppression system for the server rack rooms with early warning aspirated smoke detection. Special attention was paid to suppression options rated to -60F, offering minimal water hazards, and immediate automatic response.
